Injectables Q & A

What are injectables?

Injectables address the issue of aging skin without patients needing to undergo a surgical procedure. Mitts Plastic Surgery provides a range of advanced cosmetic injectable treatments that are placed beneath the skin to mimic the effects of a face- or brow lift. The procedures take under an hour to perform, producing immediate improvements to the skin.

What kinds of injectables are available?

There are a number of injectable treatment options available at Mitts Plastic Surgery, including:

Botox®

Botox has been in use for more than 30 years now and is proven to be both safe for patients and effective in minimizing wrinkles and fine lines. Botox injections cause temporary paralysis of the facial muscles by blocking chemical signals from the nerves responsible for contracting these muscles. As a result, the facial muscles relax, smoothing out lines and wrinkles.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm is a facial filler containing a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid. The filler enters the spaces in between facial fibers when injected into the face, helping to replace the volume and firmness lost through the aging process. The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm helps your tissues retain more water molecules, which further enhances the filler’s plumping effects.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy

Many clinicians believe that PRP injections can trigger the growth of new hair when injected into the scalp. PRP is full of natural growth factors harvested from your own blood and processed to ensure purity. Injecting PRP into the scalp is believed to help reverse hair loss by optimizing blood supply to the hair follicles and increasing each hair’s thickness.

How long do the effects of injectables last?

The length of time a particular treatment lasts depends on the type of treatment carried out and also varies between each patient. Botox treatments can last up to four months, and Juvéderm treatments can last for between one and two years.

To maintain the effectiveness of any treatment, you need to attend follow-up appointments and have further treatments at the intervals advised by Mitts Plastic Surgery.
